Water, Water of Life

So goes the chorus of a much-loved hymn. It reminds us of the sacredness of water and it’s links to daily life and faith.

How sad must God be to see our oceans so degraded, especially by the combined impact of climate change and waste plastic. What can we all do to protect our oceans? We can seek to live more lightly upon the earth, including reducing our use of plastic and carefully recycling that with which we have finished.

We can also pray. Comforter God, we ask you to help our brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering because of the problem of plastic pollution: subsistence fishermen who pull up nets of full of rubbish, those who suffer health problems from contaminated seafood, and those whose places of work and leisure are marred by washed up plastic. We ask for your help. May the oceans reflect your glory once again. In the names of Jesus, Amen (Prayer by A Rocha International).
